Wal-Mart’s Dream Tower Heater Fan Recalled

Maxi-Heat Dream Tower Heaters
The Consumer Product Safety Commission, in conjunction with Wal-Mart, recalled approximately 75,000 oscillating heaters known as Maxi-Heat™ Dream Tower Heaters.

The government agency said that the wires inside the oscillating heater can short circuit and spark, posing a fire hazard to consumers. The manufacturer had reported more than cases of short circuits, but no injuries.

The recalled model is CH920. The ceramic portable electric heaters are the oscillating tower type. They are grey and have a control panel attached to the top of the unit. “Maxi-Heat™” is printed on the control panel. The model number is printed on the ETL label on the bottom of the back side of the unit.

These units were sold at Wal-Mart stores between August 2005 and December 2005 for $40. Consumers should immediately stop using the appliance and call King of Fans toll-free at (866) 443-1291 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. E.T., Monday through Friday.

200,000 Oil-Filled Heaters Recalled

KING OF FANS
As winter chills set in throughout the U.S., the Consumer Product Safety Commission and King of Fans, Inc have recalled over 200,000 heaters. According to the government agency, consumers should immediately stop using the heaters.

The manufacturer, King of Fans, reports more than 80 incidents of leaking oil, two reports of minor burns and two falls. The portable electric radiator-style heaters have seven fins, one of which has the control panel attached to it. The units are gray with a black control panel. “Maxi-Heat™” is printed below the handle indentation on the control panel. The model number 70030 and date codes 0705 and 0805 are printed on the UL label on the lower right side of the control panel. The following purchase order numbers are located on the bottom of the radiator heater’s packaging: 56199910, 56199924, 56199961, 57105731, 57105732, 57100092, 57100089, 57100086, 57105685, and 57105686.

The heaters were sold in Home Depot stores in October and November for approximately $35 each. Consumers can return the heaters to a Home Depot retail location for a refund or call the manufacturer, King of Fans, toll-free at (866) 443-1291 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

180,000 "Tower" Heating Fans Recalled, Can Overheat


The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission, along with The Holmes Group, a heating fan manufacturer like the one pictured here, has recalled 180,000 of the units. According to the government agency, there have been 98 reports of minor property damage after the fans overheated. No injuries have been reported.


The recall involves Holmes® models HFH6498-U, HFH6500-U and HFH6500TG-U and Bionaire® model BFH3530-U. The recalled heaters also have date codes beginning with 2604 through 3804 for all units, except for Holmes® model 6500TG-U, which has date codes ranging from 2604 through 4704. The model and date code can be found on the silver label on the back of the unit. The heater fans are 26 inches tall; come in all gray, two-tone gray, or black and gray; and have either the word Holmes® or Bionaire® printed on the front of the base.

The fans were sold at retailers such as Wal-Mart, Target, Linens N Things and Bed Bath & Beyond for between $40 and $90 during the period from July 2004 through June 2005.

Consumers who own one of the affected units can call The Holmes Group toll-free at (800) 593-4269 anytime to obtain a replacement.

Oil Filled Electric Heaters Recalled, 70,000 Consumers Impacted

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Lakewood Engineering announced today that 70,000 oil-filled electric heaters are being recalled due to improper welding.

The company and federal agency advise consumers to immediately stop using the heaters.

According to the joint press release, the units are gray-white in color and have the name “Lakewood” printed below the control panel. The affected units also have the model 5101 printed on them.

Lakewood reports that there have been 28 reported incidents, including a burn injury from “spewing oil”. Affected consumers should call Lakewood toll-free at (888) 858-3506 to obtain a new heater.
